Mission to Mars!

OBJECTIVE

By the end of the lesson, students will:

  • Build and decorate a model rocket as part of their mission to Mars.

  • Learn basic facts about Mars and why living there is challenging.

  • (Optional) Brainstorm and draw their own ideas for how humans could survive on another planet.

  • Share their design ideas using age-appropriate language.

FUTURE READY

In this lesson, students build Future Ready skills by stepping into the role of Space Explorers—right here on California’s Central Coast, home to Vandenberg Space Force Base. As they design and launch simple rockets and imagine life on Mars, kindergarteners practice curiosity, creativity, problem-solving, and communication—the same habits used by real astronauts and engineers. They discover that space exploration isn’t something that only happens far away, but in their own community, helping them begin to see themselves as future innovators in the region’s growing Space & Aerospace industry.
